Compensating Balance Deposits with Participation in Loan Yields

In today's lending environment, Banks will frequently agree to make a loan to a borrower if the borrower can make a significant deposit of funds in a certificate of deposit. Borrowers will agree to pay a fee to a third party who will make the deposit on the borrowers behalf. The investor making the deposit would earn the stated yield paid by the Deposit Account and a fee paid by the borrower. The investor's deposit is not pledged or at risk related the borrowers loan.
